Aquatic Explorations
Los Alamitos is very well-known for it's great schools and highly competitive programs (such as dance, music, sports, etc). When it comes to aquatics, Los Alamitos is the place to be. As home to the USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center--where the US Olympic water polo team trains-- the city offers relatively inexpensive (group and private) swimming lessons all throughout summer for kids, adults, beginners, and even advanced swimmers.
If you want to go the private school route, there is a swim school called Aquatic Explorations nestled in a little business/commercial area. The location is modestly sized, but kid friendly and comfortable. There is plenty of comfortable seating for the parents, rubber mats all around the pool, a kiddie boat with toys for accompanying children, a chest full of little prizes for the little swimmers (given at the end of each lesson) and conveniently only 3 minutes away from where we live in "carrier row". Oh, and did I mention this place has received GREAT reviews on Yelp.com?
My daughter has only been to two sessions, but she already feels very comfortable with her instructor, Mac. I am very excited to see her progress and hope that this school is worth the money--I have a feeling it will be!
Gotta love Los Alamitos!

Gotta Love Los Alamitos
Archery, in Los Alamitos?! Who could have guessed that such a small city of roughly 4 square miles and 11, 500 individuals has its own archery range? Archery, an ancient practice which helped sustain humankind for centuries before the dawn of more efficient weapons, and now a sport practiced by many around the world.
Today, my husband and I were taking our daughter out to the park but, per his suggestion, we decided to drop off his mom's Mother's Day card at the post office first for prompt delivery and correct postage. As we turned onto Reagan Street to get to the Post Office, I caught a quick glimpse of the Archery Outpost sign at the corner for the first time, after living here for a year and a half already. Ever since I had the opportunity to use a bow and arrow at the Renaissance Fair, I found it exciting. In fact, now that I recall, as a child I used to sneak around with my youngest uncle's toy bow and arrows--the ones with the suction cups at the tips--and just loved aiming and shooting random targets, and on occasions grandma's rear was a fun target.
Not that archery is a very rare sport, or that archery shops are uncommon, but to find a school 1.5 miles from my home, in such a tiny city, is amazing! Seems like a great place, Yelp.com shows nothing but positive reviews. I cannot wait to take some lessons, with real bows and real arrows (and proper targets).

Hello World!
Hello World,
It's Thursday night and have a strong desire to write about my town and the beautiful things I have come across since moving to the Orange County area. I am sure there are hundreds of wonderful blogs already out there about all the amazing places in the OC, but I still want to tell my story and paint a picture of Orange County and, in particular, Los Alamitos. the way I see it-- an underestimated, overlooked, beautiful little town that's surrounded by a diverse socio-economic culture.
Also, I will be blogging about my new found passion for gardening and furniture making. You see, for the past year and a half I have killed more flowers than I would like to admit. On the upside, I have noticed a decline in the number of flower deaths recently. So, I know I'm not a lost cause, one could even say I've graduated from a black thumb to a brown, yellowish thumb. Now, when I say furniture making, I mean simple tables, benches, spice racks... I'm a novice, an amateur, who loves to create useful and oftentimes, beautiful things, out of a few 2x4's. I'm not a gardener; I'm not a carpenter. I don't know what I'm doing most of the time, but that doesn't stop me.
I'm hoping that when I'm old, very old... I can look back at this blog and re-live the moments and things that brought so much joy to my life and if I can inspire at least one person, then that would just make it all the more worthwhile.
